We sent official petition to Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg, the owner of WordPress.
In efforts to get clear understanding what circumstances led Automattic Trust & Safety (formerly known as Tumblr) to make such radical move as to pave way to Russian Federation suppressing efforts upon the indigenous people of Russia we have sent official petition to Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg with clear intent him to elaborate circumstances that led to such decision and actions.

Dear Matt Mullenweg,
We, SA VALDEF (Foundation Open Source Democracy Fond), are writing in regard of Automattic and Automattic Trust & Safety actions taken on 5 July 2021 against the only independent indigenous people of Russian Federation, outside Russia, Mari’s peoples news site MariUver.com domain blocking on behalf of Roskomnadzor. We are advising and curating MariUver.com on technical and legal aspects of the event on international level and English-speaking world. We have published our statement and report of the event and conclusion where the realities and consequences of the action taken by Automattic demands clear elaboration by the company. The actions taken by Atomattic:
- breached human rights of the deceased Albert Razin and the goal he fought for, which prompted his act of self-immolation;
- breach the rights of Freedom of Speech both by the US legislation and by the international legislation;
- breach the rights to publish rightful, correct, no infringement of any law or copyright whatsoever just by receiving a made-up bogus notice by a Russian authority which continues their long-standing effort in suppression of indigenous peoples of Russian Federation.
- Automattic contributed to Russian Federation systematic long term ethnic cleansing efforts of Finno-Ugric peoples of Russian Federation.
After 5 July 2021 event there’s no way Automattic can making business in Russia and not having a very clear and good knowledge of events taking place in the region, especially current state of indigenous peoples. In English speaking worlds such action are unthinkable in due t its highly political and ethnically targeted subjugation.
We would like you on behalf of Automattic to elaborate:
- The exact chain of events and decision making that lead to Automattic decision and actions on 5 July 2021 to be revealed.
- Changes Automattic is making to prevent involvement in Russian Federation long term efforts of eradication of Finno-Ugric and other indigenous peoples of Russia.
- Official statement by Automattic in regard the event that took place on 5 July 20201 with acknowledgment of the mistake would be issued when?
We are hoping the material sent and in-depth article have explained the depth of the problem Automattic has waded into and contributed. We hope this petition would pave the way to prevent such occasions forever.
