Russian Navy battleship destroyed and sank by Ukraine army Grad MLRS fire.
On March 7, 2022 Ukraine army opened fire on Russian Black Sea flotilla battleship project 22160 “Vasiliy Bykov” with Ukraine army rocked artillery Grad MLRS fire when it patrolled the waters at Odesa.
One of the most crucial forces in Russia’s 8-year war of genocide on Ukraine 3rd hot phase is Ukraine artillery. Ukraine artillery has been known since 2014 being on top if not among the best artillery forces in the world. Their capability to calculate the trajectory to the target with no digital means skyrocketed due to annexation of Crimea and the subsequent war activities in Eastern Ukraine. When on February 24, 2022 Russian army columns started to fully move into Ukraine the artillery units had free hands in liquidating the enemy battle groups.
What no one ever foresaw was the use of Grad MLRS against the surface targets. Ukraine has very capable anti-ship missiles capable of sinking any Russian navy vessel and they have been working on it since 2014 but it’s unclear have the Ukraine army procured the missile or put into service. So far by March 7, 2022 Ukraine army has not used any anti-ship missiles against the Russian Black Sea flotilla vessel even when they were close to Odesa prior.
On March 7, 2022 in the darkness Ukraine army deployed and aimed their rocket artillery Grad MLRS system at the shore of Odesa and launched full salvo at the Russian patrol vessel project 22160 “Vasiliy Bykov” that had joined the Russian Navy in December 2018.
The ship sustained direct hits by the rocket artillery shells. Grad MLRS has been known as a weapon to wipe out the whole tank or armored vehicle columns depending on their warhead and munition type.
The fact that someone used MRLS against a o a surface vessel must be a world first. How they manage to calculate the trajectory and assess the distance remains unclear. The fact is the Ukraine army serviceman who filmed the shelling and saw the ship bursting into flames was surprised as others and they welcomed their new kill. The cameraman called the volley a festivity firework. For celebration of splendid work, the now infamous but standard slogan “Русский военный корабль, иди нахуй!”

By March 7, 2022 before noon first official confirmation by Ukraine army General Staff [1] came they have hit Russian navy surface vessel. By 13:20 confirmation came the ship is still on fire [2]. The fire has been raging on the ship for last 6-8 hours.
Ukraine Navy published video of Russian Navy project 22160 “Vasiliy Bykov” still on 12-14 hours after getting hit. The smoke is very intense, dark, and the fire on board is raging to the extent it’s beyond the crew capability of the crew is dead already.

By March 7, 2022 19:15 Ukraine Navy officially confirmed Russian Navy patrol vessel project 22160 “Vasiliy Bykov” has sank. This is first such kill and most astonishing achievement by hitting a vessel with precision artillery fire and letting it burn for 15 hours to sink to the bottom of the Black Sea.
There’s no news of the crew. Most probably they are lost with the ship. Russia can’t hide loss of such vessel or at least the social networks of the crew and the close one won’t be silent.
